Bayhawks Rookies Getting it Done

On a team dominated by veterans, there are a few rookies who are making a name for themselves. Attackman Matt Mackrides, midfielder Brent Adams, and goaltender T.C DiBartolo have all come in and made an immediate impact in the MLL.

DiBartolo (Mount Saint Mary’s) made his first career start in the Bayhawks’ 2012 season opener on April, 28 versus the Long Island Lizards. He recorded 15 saves, and led the Bayhawks to a 13-11 victory.

“I think unfortunately for him, T.C saw a lot of shots in college because of where he played, so he was extremely prepared for the league and is actually seeing fewer shots now,” said Bayhawks head coach Dave Cottle. “He’s a local kid who is very quick, excellent at stopping the ball, and is a great clearer. T.C is much better than we thought.

DiBartolo has recorded 31 saves this season, with a record of 2-0, a goals against average of 10.27, and a save percentage of .564. He is a legitimate contender to start every game.
Matt Mackrides (Penn State) and Brent Adams (Fairfield) were called up to the Bayhawks roster for one of the toughest games of the year; at the Denver Outlaws. The first-year men looked like grizzled vets, each turning in a goal in the high altitude.

“I recruited both of these guys when they were in high school. Matt is a guy who can play attack and midfield, and we’re very impressed with his ability to pick things up quickly. He totally understands the game, and he really explodes with the ball,” raves Cottle. “Brent is a guy that we would have taken earlier. He is very quick and very athletic. He played shortstick Defense for most of his career at Fairfield, but scored 35 goals his senior year when he was moved to offense.”

The duo continued its production, back at home versus the Charlotte Hounds. Adams recorded an assist on a Drew Westervelt goal, and Mackrides scored another 2 goals bring his goal total up to 3 in just 2 games.

“All three of these young men are great locker room guys with great speed and great quickness and we love having them on the team,” concluded Cottle. The Bayhawks look to get more rookies on to the field as the season goes on.
